A permanent indoor market filled with fresh fruits and vegetable, delicious baked goods and lots of coffee and snacks at one end, and lots of jewelry, creative art works and various souvenirs items.
When I first arrived at the market it was very quiet, but by noon it was packed...Fremantle is a big tourist destination, so no real surprise. I finished up, bought some fruit for lunch and headed to the Esplanade to find a spot in the shade to have a bite to eat...sunny 32 degrees today.
Along the way I walked passed a beautiful church and came across the very old Esplanade Hotel.
From here I walked along a small boardwalk by the waterfront. Lots of people around, but it was strange to have this little beach area right in front of the patios of restaurants...not my preferred location to sunbathe, but maybe hers....
I wandered up from the waterfront, passed the Western Australia Museum and then onto some streets to check out some of the shops.
There is a lot of beautiful architecture in the area and it was interesting to notice the streets outside the main tourist part of town were almost empty.
During my walk, I came across some interesting posts with people's names on them and a verse...typically related to Fremantle...very cool. Definitely tied into the artsy aspect of this area.
At one point I turned the corner and suddenly found all the people...enjoying lunch at the many restaurants and cafés along Capuchinno Strip. Fremantle apparently is a popular location for food and great bars, so in addition to tourists, there were a lot of locals in the area as well.
So like any good tourist I decided to stop and enjoy a chai latte and do some people watching on one of the outdoor patios...and I wasn't disappointed!
By this point it was almost time for me to meet Cathy, so I wandered back up to the market while looking in some of the shops...yes I did purchase a couple unique items from some local artists. Cathy arrived at 2:30pm and we headed towards Perth Hills where we met up with some of her friends at a local cider house.
Core was in a beautiful location with lots of outdoor space, a nice deck, beautiful views of the orchards and some good live music.
We spent the next 3 hours enjoying some drinks...I decided to get the cider sampler...
some delicious snacks...
and great conversation. At one point my cheeks hurt from laughing so much!! We left Core around 6:30pm...what a fabulous way to spend an afternoon on a lovely summer day!
