Travel Day..off to Perth

Had a nice sleep and took my time getting ready to head over to the airport for my 1pm flight to Perth...3200km away and almost 9 hours of travel via Melbourne. I had such a lovely time at the Montacute Boutique Bunkhouse...the owners were so friendly, as well as the guests, and their cat Mrs. was a great addition...it was hard to leave.

Along my walk to the bus stop I came across some very creative things...love the Battery Park area of Hobart where I was staying.  Found this in the backyard of one of the houses...

Then came across this in the window of a woman's house/Art studio...turns out she is an artist and also an art teacher...and I had a great chat with her as well.

And of course roses...they are everywhere in Australia...very beautiful and so many different colours and varieties.

After catching my shuttle to the airport...with some help from a local woman...I arrived at the airport with lots of time.  I was actually the first person in line to check in.  As I was going through security they saw something in my bag...I had no idea what it could be.  Turns out it was a gift I was bringing to my friend in Perth and I forgot to put it in my suitcase.  Not wanting to come all this way to leave it behind I decided to try and check it in.

So back I went to the check in line...this time it was very long...only to suddenly realize I left my coat and camera at security.  So with my sudden feeling of horror, I left my bag with a guy in line...I think he recognized the look of panic on my face and offered to help...and ran down to security.  The security staff in Australia are so accommodating...the first guy told me the item I couldn't carry on was very nice...and then the second guy graciously found my stuff and handed it back.

So back I went to check in...thankfully the guy with my bag didn't take off with my money and passport...and I eventually arrived at the counter.  They then proceeded to put my little item in a not so little box, taped it all up, had me sign a waiver and sent it on its way in hopes of arriving in Perth when I do!

Upon arriving in Perth..after gaining 3 hours...my friend Cathy arrived just after I did.  And just in time for my luggage and my little parcel to come around on the conveyor belt...I can not believe it was still intact!!

It was a beautiful 27 degrees at 7pm..much nicer than the cold and rainy weather in Melbourne when I was transferring through.  We headed downtown Perth to the Twilight Hawkers Market...a summer food market that happens every Friday night.  Lots of different food, music and tons of people mingling around.

After having a bite to eat, we went for a little wonder around the area and then took a bit of a tour by car to the other side of Swan River in the southern part of Melbourne where we could see the skyline...very nice all lit up at night.  After having a look...it's very windy this evening...we headed to Cathy's and I got settled for the night.

With the time change it was about 2am, so I decided to call it a night.  Lots to do in Perth during the summer, so I'm looking forward to checking things out over the next 5-6 days.

Until then....
